Description:

Learning about the history of our country is always fascinating. We yearn to find out more about how people lived when our country was founded, what they ate, how they managed to do those things we take for granted without the technology we have today. Popcorn in a microwave? No. Not even a gas stove! Harvest with a tractor? Think again. No dresses off the rack at Macy’s, no flat screen TVs for entertainment, but board games and brain games were a la mode. And communication? Writing was in, texting--like science fiction. Yes, you can read a book about all this history, but why read when you can do and experience?

Today’s deal gives you the chance to experience life in Portsmouth, NH as it was from the 17th to mid-20th Century. Spend just $7.50 and get one general admission ticket to Strawbery Banke Museum. That’s 50% Off! Make it a day trip or a whole weekend trip for exploring the Seacoast!

Stroll through the many landscaped gardens and restored homes in Portsmouth’s Puddle Dock neighborhood and experience life as it was through hands on interactive exhibits, talks lead by historians and even through the words of live on site historical characters. Watch while a cooper creates barrels just like those used in the 1800s. Come see the featured exhibit this year, Thread: Stories of Fashion at Strawbery Banke 1740-2012. Compare rarely seen garments and accessories from the museum's collection with the 21st century creations by contemporary designers they inspired all displayed in vignettes in 6 of the historic buildings. You'll also love The Victorian Children's Garden, a one-of-a-kind living history garden that features a Victorian tea garden, plants that tell time, a butterfly and fairy garden, a language of flowers garden, and a two-story naturalistic Victorian treehouse. At the Wheelwright House, experience the sounds, tastes, and touches of life in 1785.

The museum has a rich history that spans four centuries of American life. Throughout the year, special exhibits and programs are developed at the museum to share the real stories of the people that called the Puddle Dock neighborhood of the museum home. Don’t forget to stop into the Visitor’s Center to take home a memento of your time in the past and all you want to learn the next time you visit
